South Africa National Cricket Team vs Afghanistan National Cricket Team Match Preview - The T20 World Cup 2024 is heading towards its business end as South Africa and Afghanistan will lock horns in the semi-final 2 on Wednesday, June 26 (Thursday, June 27 IST) at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. South Africa are coming into the crucial fixture being unbeaten in the tournament so far.

The Aiden Markram-led side started their campaign beating Sri Lanka by six wickets in their opening Group D encounter. However, they were later given a run for their money by the Netherlands (four-wicket win), Bangladesh (four-run win) and Nepal (one-run win) as they registered close victories against them.

Later in the Super 8 stages, South Africa comfortably beat USA by 18 runs and England by seven runs before sealing their spot in the semi-final by defeating West Indies in their last game by three wickets. However, the tough part starts now for the two-time semi-finalists who don’t have a great run in the knockout stages of ICC events.

South Africa have a dismal record in the ICC events as their only major title victory came in 1998 when they won the inaugural edition of the ICC knockout cup which is now known as the Champions Trophy. Hence, they will be eager to finally end their knockout jinx and enter their first ever final of T20 World Cup by winning the upcoming encounter.

On the other hand, Afghanistan stunned New Zealand in the group stages handing them a massive 84-run loss. The Rashid Khan-led side finished on the second spot in Group C losing their only game against West Indies.

They began their Super 8 campaign with a 47-run loss but made a brilliant comeback by defeating Australia and Bangladesh to advance through to the semi finals. Afghanistan have already scripted history by qualifying for their first ever semi-final of a high profile ICC event but will not be satisfied yet as their dream of holding the coveted trophy gets closer.
