Bangladesh host Sri Lanka in the second T20 international of the three-match series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The match starts at 5:30pm local time (12:00 GMT).

Sri Lanka won the first match of the series by three runs in a thrilling finish.

Jaker Ali top-scored in the match, with 68 runs for Bangladesh, but Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka was named player of the match for his 44 from 21 balls.

The two teams will face each other again in the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.

The venue in New York City will host the world’s most watch match up between India and Pakistan.

Construction has begun on the ground which is one hour to the east of Brooklyn.

Sri Lanka begin their World Cup campaign at the venue on June 3, against South Africa.

Bangladesh play their first match against Sri Lanka on June 8, at Grand Prairie before facing South Africa in their second match on June 10, which will be played at the Nassau County Stadium.

Tharanga reveals T20 World Cup strategy

Sri Lanka’s chairman of selectors, Upal Tharanga, has been explaining the reasons behind the spinners named in the latest squad.

The former opening batter says an eye has very much been cast forward to the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.

“In T20s we need a wicket-taking option, which is why we opted for Jeffrey (Vandersay) over someone like Dunith (Wellalage),” Tharanga said.

“We felt that Jeffrey was more of an attacking bowler in T20s. We had a big discussion regarding Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Jeffrey, and there were differing opinions within the selection committee.

“But in the end, we went with Jeffrey because the (T20) World Cup is coming up soon and there was a question over whether Viyaskanth could suddenly be brought in to play in a (T20) World Cup. So that’s why we went with Jeffrey and his experience.”

Sri Lanka celebrate Silverwood’s birthday

Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood celebrated his 49th birthday on Tuesday.

The former England bowler played six Tests and seven one-day internationals for his country but his opportunities were limited by injury

The fast bowler spent 14 seasons with his native Yorkshire before joining Middlesex where he spent four seasons.

Silverwood began his post-playing days as a player-coach with the Mashonaland Eagles in Zimbabwe before joining Essex where he spent three seasons.

A three-year stint with England ended in 2022 but he was immediately snapped up by Sri Lanka.

The remainder of the tour

The third and final T20 match will be held on March 9, also at Sylhet.

Sri Lanka, who arrived in Bangladesh last Thursday, will also play three one-day internationals and two Tests during the month-long tour.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka was named Player of the Match for his 44 from 21 deliveries, which helped his side post a total of 206-3 in the opening match.

A three-run thriller in the first match

Sri Lanka edged the first game of the three-match series by three runs on Monday.

The tourists’ total of 206-3 looked as though it would be more than enough before Jaker Ali’s 68 dragged the hosts towards their target.
