Papua New Guinea National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Players : Match Preview - New Zealand and PNG go head to head in match 39 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Trinidad on Monday, June 17. This is the penultimate group game in the World Cup. The West Indies vs Afghanistan game is the last.

New Zealand and PNG are both out of the tournament. This is the first time that the Kiwis have been eliminated from the Group stage of the T20 World Cup. They played the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup and played the semi-final of the last World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

It was overall a very disappointing performance from the Kiwis. They could not score 160 against Afghanistan and 150 against the West Indies. They managed a consolation win against Uganda and are expected to win their final group game against PNG.

Papua New Guinea, on the other hand, are yet to win a game in this World Cup. They lost to the co-hosts and then were outplayed by Afghanistan and Uganda. They fought hard against the Windies in their very first game and need another fighting performance.

With two more Group stage matches remaining the Super 8 teams have been decided from each group. India and the USA qualified from Group A, England and Australia from Group B, West Indies, and Afghanistan from Group C, and South Africa and Bangladesh from Group D

Papua New Guinea National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Players : Trends and Patterns

The Kiwis made an early exit from the tournament. This time around, they did not look prepared for the big stage. Many of the players played well in the World Cup. They even played a bilateral series against Pakistan.

However, they started the tournament almost a week later than the other teams which perhaps caught them off guard. They failed to get themselves associated with the conditions quickly which caught them off guard in the game against Afghanistan.

For PNG, the matches should have been a good learning curve. They gave their best on all three of them but were not just experienced enough to take on the big teams. The tournament should prepare them better for the future.

Papua New Guinea National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Match - Pitch Report

In the ten Twenty20 International matches that Trinidad has hosted, the side has won six by bowling first and six by batting first. One of the better batting grounds in the West Indies is this one. At this location, West Indies and Afghanistan won their matches with the bat, while New Zealand won the chase.

Teams have found it difficult to chase down the par score of 160. With the Kiwis' potent bowling assault, batting first ought to result in a safe total. As they did against Uganda, they can also try to chase swiftly by cheaply conceding defeat to PNG.

Papua New Guinea National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Players - Match Prediction

New Zealand are expected to win the match against Papua New Guinea on Monday. There is an 80% chance of the Kiwi team winning the match in comparison of PNG's 20%.

Conclusion

This has been New Zealand's worst T20 World Cup campaign. For the first time, they did not make the knockout stages and faced a group stage exit. The management should analyze where it all went wrong for the side and aim to come better prepared for the Champions Trophy 2025.
